WSI - Water Safety Instructor Training

Ages 16 & Up

This course is designed to train Water Safety Instructor (WSI) candidates to teach the American Red Cross Learn to Swim programs, and community water safety outreach programs. The new blended learning Water Safety Instructor class will offer more hands-on training while instructor candidates complete much of the content online before and throughout the course. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) candidates must be 16 years of age, and able to demonstrate six proficient strokes at a Red Cross level 4: 25-yards front crawl, 25-yards back crawl, 25-yards elementary backstroke, 25-yards sidestroke, 25-yards breaststroke and 10-yards butterfly. Upon successful completion of the Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course, candidates will receive an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification valid for 2 years.

Blended learning online work must be completed before the start of class.

Emergency Sheets are required for ALL individuals (adults & youth) participating in any Andover Recreation programs, events, and trips. They must be filled out for each individual annually. Some programs will require additional paperwork or a new Emergency Sheet to be filled out.
